Your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer can be connected to the network through an Ethernet or wired connection. An Ethernet port is usually available in the computer or the network router, to connect the Ethernet cables. They are alternatively called sockets or jacks. Most computers have an in built Ethernet port.
Ethernet cables are different from telephone cables. Telephone cable have different connectors. The connectors are wide and thick for an Ethernet cable. They have 8 contacts. A telephone connector, on the other hand, has 2 to 6 contacts.
A wired connection to the network requires an available Ethernet port the router. Use a switch or hub, if no ports are available. Remove the protective cover on the printer’s Ethernet port, and then connect the cable. Use only the CAT-5 cable to connect your printer to the wired connection.
