  • Close the ink cartridge access door.

  • Switch on the printer and computer and get a USB cable less than 3 m (9 ft 10 in) in length.

  • Do not reconnect the USB cable to printer and computer unless prompted during the driver installation process. Search for ‘devices’ from the Start, and then Select the Devices and Printers control panel setting in the search results.

  • Make sure genuine HP ink cartridges installed on your printer.
  • Download the full feature driver software and install it on your computer.
  • Ensure that the printer is active and search for HP from your installed programs.
  • Open the HP Printer Assistant application and then check the Estimated Ink Levels.
  • Replace the ink cartridges if they are low or empty.
  • Insert the black ink cartridge into the slot at the right side and the tri-color ink cartridge into the slot that is in the left.
  • Hold and insert the ink cartridge in a slight upward angle into the right slot.
  • Make sure that the cartridge fixes properly into the slot.

  • If you find a problem with the black ink cartridge, remove it from the slot.
  • If you detect any color ink blocks on the printed output, remove the installed color ink cartridge from the slot and replace it with a new cartridge and then try printing.
